Joe Montana, the star that unites 49ers and Chiefs

San Francisco 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs are the contenders for Super Bowl LIV. When you talk about these two teams, the name of Joe Montana always comes up as a reference. He was the great leader of the Red and Gold in their four NFL titles, while he played his last two seasons with the Chiefs.

Before the Tom Brady era, Montana was the most dominant QB. He had a very talented team around him of course. His successful career took him to win four Super Bowl rings in the same number opportunities; he was also named MVP in three of them.

In his first season as a starter in 1981, Montana showed his qualities and his leadership to win complicated games, he was an expert in epic comebacks. In the National League Final against the Dallas Cowboys he made a play with Dwight Clark known as the "The Catch". San Francisco would win that game and move on to Super Bowl XVI.

In that game they defeated the Cincinnati Bengals 26-21 with a huge performance of their QB, who got his first SB MVP.

With the wins in Super Bowls XIX (38-16 over the Dolphins), XXIII (20-16 over the Bengals) and XXIV (55-10 over the Broncos), Montana wrote the most glorious pages of the 49ers, overcoming a big injury in 1986 and then the pressure of a young Steve Young.

Montana's legacy in San Francisco will not be forgotten. Now the Niners want to join Brady as the teams with most rings. In front of them they will have the Chiefs, the team where Montana ended his career.

Joe only took the Chiefs to their first Conference final in 1994. His retirement, a year later, secured him a place in the Hall of Fame, after a brilliant career that will always be remembered for his dramatic stunts and comebacks.\ue712
